Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
All students have different needs. This is especially true in a classroom that contains students from two different grade levels. Sight words are essential for reading fluently and comprehending a story. My students need a way to practice sight words that is differentiated to meet their needs.
My students are first and second graders.
Having a combination class can be challenging at times, but the progress they are making is outstanding. My students are very creative and love to work with each other. The second graders help to set an excellent example for the first graders and help push them to learn more. The first graders ask the second graders for help and challenge them by asking them questions. My students work hard and love reading. My classroom includes many students who speak a language other than English. Our school is a Title 1 school.
My Project
I am requesting a sight word center that contains multiple activities to complete with varying sight word lists. In addition, I am requesting a sight word recognition game to assist my students in recognizing their sight words automatically and with a partner. These resources will help my students because it would allow them to practice the sight words they personally need to work on in a way that they choose. The students will be able to continue working on learning and mastering their sight words at their own pace with the sight word center. The students will then be able to practice the sight words as a class using the game which requires partners. The students would then have the opportunity to work together on sight words. It is important that students memorize sight words early so that they can read more fluently.
These materials would give my students access to learning sight words in a new and exciting way.
My students could work at the level they are at and work towards their own goal. This would challenge every student in my class at the same time.
