I teach at a magnet school for gifted and high-achieving students. We serve students in grades 6-12 from throughout our district. Students test for admission and most students are functioning above the 90th percentile. All students are working at least one grade level above their actual age. The students in my school are a true melting pot of nationalities, religions, and economic levels but the common trait that they have is the love of being challenged and learning new things. My students challenge each other, and me, to learn more and do their very best, both in and out of the classroom!
My Project
"Writing is the painting of a voice," Voltaire. As my students learn the art of painting their voices, they need opportunities. Opportunities to write; to study mentor texts; to confer with peers; to revise; to write some more.
Having a few Chromebooks will allow the needed opportunities for collaboration to occur in our classroom!
Google Docs has become a valuable way for my students to share their writing with others and get meaningful feedback - in a constant write, share, revise cycle. We currently have 4 Chromebooks and two desktop computers in our classroom, but two more would allow more students access to this very useful technology - and allow them to truly paint their voices!
