Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a bilingual teacher serving in a community where students strive to be the best they can while becoming multi-cultural and bilingual it is important to give these students all the opportunities available to succeed. These students are showing how bilingualism rocks.
My third grade students learn in a bilingual setting.
Their day consists of 70% of Spanish instruction and 30% of English instruction. The goal is to learn in Spanish while slowly introducing English and transferring their knowledge into the other language. At their age my students are fascinated with learning through different modalities. My students are spontaneous, creative and very clever. They like to learn, explore, read and research new topics. I want to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that instill lifelong learning.
My Project
In a continuous effort to help all of my students improve in their reading and writing in Spanish and English, these iPads will help my students meet their goals in both languages. Students will be working on meeting their reading level in both languages by using websites such as Epic and AR. With technology availability students will have more opportunities during the day and week to read a book and take reading comprehension quizzes. Having these iPads in the classroom will motivate students to move reading levels at a faster pace.
Additionally, these iPads will allow students to research new topics in a fun and educational manner.
Instead of focusing on one topic for the whole class and paper materials, students will have the opportunity to learn through videos and different texts about the topic that they are interested in. When a student is engaged and enjoying what they are learning they will seek more knowledge and time to be able to meet their goal. Please consider making a donation to these bilingual scholars.
