Improving our Posture & Tempo While Rocking to the Beat!
My students need a small set of Hokki Stools so they can improve their posture while productively channeling their movement by rocking back and forth on the stools to the beat of any song we play.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is a diverse multicultural population at our school full of energetic and curious students from a variety of social and economic backgrounds.
Our students are eager to expand their musical knowledge and explore new approaches to playing music.
They enter music class with an excitement to learn and enthusiasm to participate. This excitement and zealous energy tends to lead to excessive movement that often results in distractions so we are always searching for innovative ways to creatively channel that movement.
My Project
Our elementary music class is a springboard for musical exploration and one of the central goals is establishing fluency in reading rhythm notation. Our students are energetic and rambunctious so new strategies to channel their energy into productive movement are always extremely helpful.
These Hokki stools will allow the movement needed to rock back and forth as a means of reinforcing tempo while reading and playing rhythm notation.
Not only do the Hokki stools allow students to channel their excess energy by swaying back and forth in the productive act of strengthening their rhythm while they play but the stools also help to improve student posture.
Students in our music classes are often divided into sections whereby a certain number of students play recorder flutes and ocarinas while others play glockenspiels, drums, or percussion. The incorporation of the Hokki stools would begin with the students playing drums or percussion since they establish the rhythmic foundation of our music. These stools will allow them the freedom in mobility to reinforce the tempo in a given song by using their hips and/or feet to sway or tap along with the beat while sitting and playing their instrument.
