Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an Early Childhood Special Education teacher in Barrio Logan (San diego, CA). All of my students have Special need that include: autism, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, down syndrome and developmental delays. At school we work very hard on developing social skills, play skills, negotiation skills and learning appropriate interactions with peers and teachers. I try to create a warm and welcoming environment to help my students grow in all aspects of life (physically, socially, emotionally) Many of my students also live in a high poverty area in San Diego. More than 30% of our kids are considered homeless and 100% receive free and/or reduced lunch. My students are especially in need of a safe and consistent learning environment (children learn best when they feel loved and safe). My classroom provides supports for the parents, the children, or the family as whole.
My Project
Would love a new imaginary play center materials for my students. This will help them grow in a variety of areas: Social-emotional, language development, conflict resolution, imaginative/creative ideas.
I would also love new cases for their iPads as well as headphones.
Each of my centers are color coded (This center is Purple Cat).
Last but not least.....I am also in need of a new Fridge with a freezer. I bring in snacks for my students to help work with requesting, opening containers and socializing with peers. My Current fridge is on its last leg, and I would really like to get a new one, not only to keep the daily routine in place, but to keep food at a safe temperature.
