This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are twelve individuals who have been diagnosed with various forms of Emotional Disturbances and/or Learning Disabilities. As part of their regular instruction due to the diverse learning styles, my students benefit from having visual and hands-on learning materials that will promote a further understanding of diverse topics. As part of our regular science instruction, we regularly discuss the water cycle, as well as the life cycle.
We were lucky enough as a class to get an aquarium donated to our classroom.
With that being said, we can delve deeper into the instruction by providing my students with all the materials to properly create an aquatic habitat, as well as manage and care for the conditions that arise during the fish tanks water cycle as well as the life cycle of the fish.
My Project
Once we were lucky enough to be granted our aquarium, my students said that the fish tank did not have enough decor to support a proper ecosystem. Through class discussions, students established that the different fish in the ecosystem need different things such as hiding places, structures to protect them, and even plants that will help aerate the eco-system. After establishing a list of needs for our classroom aquarium, my students also indicated that they need supplies such as fish food, decor and more fancy guppies. In order to to build the excitement linked to our in classroom aquarium, these student requested supplies would be an excellent addition to our classroom.
With these supplies, my students will take a leadership role in constructing the environment, treating the water conditions, and better yet even learn from all these hands-on experiences.
Together we can continue to build the excitement linked to our in classroom aquarium.
