Help me give my students Scholastic Math Magazines to explore math in the real world, improve their math skills through reading, and connect math to other subjects.
Many of my students come to me from low income families. Single parents are raising most of our students. Ten percent of my students live with a grandparent or a foster parent due to their parents being unfit. Most of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Throughout the year we are made aware of our homeless students. These students need extra care and attention.
I try to be an emotional support to as many of my students as I can.
I provide supplies to many of my students because they just don't have the money for school supplies. School supplies are a low priority when you are homeless and without other basic necessities. I teach rec so I am able to play with my kids while they learn different skills. I also coach basketball and work with many of my students on the court.
My Project
Mathematics is one of those areas that has historically been seen as abstract but in fact, math is all around us and in every part of our lives! Scholastic Math Magazines help change this notion.
Scholastic Math Magazines gives students access to real world math connections, skill-building practice, standards based leveled assessments, videos, and more!
Along with the hard copy of the magazine, the students will also have available to them a digital edition of the magazine to go back and reread, videos, additional practice problems, games and STEM connections. These students will also activate both sides of the brain as they are using both math and reading at the same time.
