This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am currently teaching in a Pre-K classroom with 6-8 children. My students range in age from 3 to 5 years old and have moderate to severe developmental delays with many being nonverbal.
My students are like sponges and absorb everything they are exposed to throughout the day.
They are full of life and have a desire to learn. They discover new things each and every day and we use every opportunity as a teaching moment.
My students are very visual learners and need to be able to have materials that are great for their age & brightly colored in order for them to learn the best. These materials and items would allow us to enhance their learning.
My Project
Pretend play is crucial in the development of young children. It helps students build essential developmental, executive functioning, and social-emotional skills. In our Pre-K classroom, students work together at learning areas to express their knowledge of concepts and skills. The play food, dishes, and other kitchen essentials selected for this project will be useful for our dramatic play center.
We will need toy food, dishes, and other kitchen essentials to instill creativity and promote language and play skills.
My students will get to pretend cook and perform everyday tasks in our classroom kitchen.
As O. Fred Donaldson once said, "Children learn as they play. Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn." Please help me provide my students with the materials they need to play...so they can learn to play.
