My students need a standing desk, humidifier, and digital timers to create a comfortable learning environment where we can stay on task with the activities.
My students are taking on the challenge of learning a completely different language: Chinese, in an area where Spanish is the dominating world language.
They come from various social-economic backgrounds.
They live in East Palo Alto, Redwood City, San Mateo, San Carlos, and Belmont.
My students come in everyday with high energy and eager to learn. They often comment that this is the class they look forward to every day because it is fun and full of laughter. It is very important for my students to feel comfortable and safe in the classrooms.
Creative and fun activities are an integral part of our lessons where the students engage in applying their newly acquired Chinese language skills. While students have opportunities to get up and walk around, there are days when they are mostly sitting, and some of the students can benefit from standing instead of sitting.
My Project
One of my goals this year is to improve our learning environment.
Having a good learning environment is one of the key elements to productive class time.
The standing desk will provide students who figet the option of standing instead of sitting down.
With larger class size this year, students are sitting much closer to each other. By mid-day, the classroom smells bad because of musty student odor, a mix of teen body sprays, perfumes, hair products, and sweats. Having the humidifier and the essential oil can make the room more pleasant. The essential oil is also known to help calm the students and provide clarity.
The timers will help everyone stay on track and keep the transitions smooth when we are engaged in various activities so we may maximize our limited class time.
