I have 7 wonderful preschool students in my class that range between the ages of three and five. Each student has an IEP, and is classified as a preschool student with disabilities and many of them are on the spectrum for Autism.
Each of my students is unique and has individualized learning goals to meet his/her needs.
Many of my students are sensory-seeking, and require multiple sensory breaks throughout the day which allows them to gain the sensory input they need in their bodies to stay alert, on task, and focused. We are constantly incorporating gross and fine motor activities into our day to strengthen these skills.
My Project
The students in my classroom work daily on improving their fine motor skills. Each student is unique, and is working on strengthen different muscles within their hands and bodies. Fine motor skill practice can be incorporated in art, sensory and independent work.
Fine motor skills involve the use of precise and coordinated movements of the fingers to perform hand use tasks.
By purchasing these items, I will provide more hands on activities to help increase my students fine motor ability. Some of the items that I am requesting are items that encourage the direct use of the students hands. For example, scoop tongs and tweezers provide opportunities for the development of prerequisite skills required for scissor use.
Lastly, by purchasing rolling all-purpose stools, myself and the assistants in my classroom will have easier access to the students while they are working at their work tables! We look forward to the future opportunities that our classroom will have!
