Improving Adolescent Social/Emotional Well Being

Help me give my students the tools needed to cope with their emotions and feelings. Working in a secondary school, through COVID, there has been a significant increase in depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, etc.

My Project

Being a school psychologist in the secondary setting has been a rough and challenging one through the COVID-19 pandemic. What used to be a manageable job has now become overwhelming. I am the only full-time school psychologist on campus. Not only do I support our special education students, but also assist counselors with general education students. Our campus has over 3000 students.

This year has been challenging in the fact that I have more than quadrupled the amount of social/emotional support that is typically needed of me.

I need more tools in my toolbox to help support these kids. So far this year I have spent over 60 hours of time with students who were having panic attacks, feeling thoughts of suicide, increased anxiety, difficulty with peer relationships, and so much more.

Having all of these items available will not only support me and the students I am supporting but have a "go-to" place for other counselors, as well as special education teachers, on our campus to go for resources and fidgets, and relaxation things to help make their jobs easier and help students to learn strategies to be able to function and be in a class where they learn best.
