Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students who are eager to learn need quality materials to engage their interests. Our class is full of inquisitive minds who love learning, particularly learning about science topics.
Once a subject grabs their interest, these students soak up any information they can get while asking higher-level questions about the world around them.
Since we are in a high poverty school, resources are tight. Being able to provide additional material and experiences will greatly enhance the learning of these students and positively impact their learning and futures.
My Project
Children are like sponges! Their innate curiosity can be tapped to challenge them to read increasingly complex texts. "Time for Kids" is a great resource which brings current news events to a student level. Attention-grabbing headlines, photos, and captions draw children into new topics each week. Additionally, special sections devoted to Science help students explore scientific concepts.
Each student will receive his or her own copy of Time for Kids magazine weekly, allowing them to read independently before sharing ideas in group discussions.
Additionally, students will be able to take Time for Kids home to discuss with parents and family members.
