This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach middle and high school band in a high-needs community. The school district is very small and in an urban setting. Our students all receive free lunch and breakfast. Even though the school and community have financial difficulties, my students come to school eager and ready to learn. The financial hardships do not interfere with their desire to learn and be the best they can be.
I am very fortunate to teach in a district where the students want to excel and work very hard.
My Project
My band classes are growing and have varying playing levels. I am teaching my students to play together as an ensemble. We do not currently have materials to help us improve our ensemble playing.
Please help my young band grow into a beautiful music ensemble.
The Sound Innovation series was introduced to me at a music conference earlier this year. The books have great exercises and tips to improve ensemble playing. These books will give my students musical examples to play together. These examples will work on the balance and intonation of the band. I am really excited to bring this new resource to my students. Thank you for helping my students grow musically.
