Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach gifted reading and language arts classes for 1st-5th grade, in a school with a majority of the population being minority and/or low-income.
Research has shown that fluency is an essential skill students must possess to be able to understand the things that they read. Listening to books on tape or CD is one way students can work on their fluency. Students who are learning English as a second language also need to hear the language as it is used correctly. Over the years I have collected a variety of books on CD for my classroom. Up until now these books and CDs have sat in a box because I lack an appropriate way to organize these and make them available for my students. When I have tried to make these available to my students, we have had the problem that the CD players do not work.
This Listening Center Organization Cart will help me to make books and CDs accessible to my students so that they can easily find a book they want to listen to, take a working CD player, and go to their seat to listen.
With your help, my students will be able to listen to classing and entertaining stories on CD, all the while brushing up on their fluency skills.
