Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am teaching a third and fourth grade split special day class in a Title I school. My students' parents are unable to provide them with all the school materials they may need. Due to this, my students do not have sufficient access to technology at home which contributes to my students' computer literacy levels. Our school does provide technology but not enough to have it accessible and working the majority of the time when needed in our classroom.
My students are amazing, caring individuals who need more access to technology to help them succeed.
In these very technologically-driven times, it is very important for our students to learn to use computers and learn the basics such as typing. This will help prepare them for state testing which is now done on computers/iPads. My students already have so many obstacles to work through, whether they be social-emotional or academic, that worrying about how to type in their answer for state testing should not be one of them.
My Project
These three computers and headphones will help make a difference by allowing my students everyday access to a computer center. My students will be able to learn how to type, use Windows computers, and have access to multiple learning games. A computer literacy center will not only provide a whole new set of tools to my classroom, it will impart a whole new skill set.
Learning to use computers is an important skill my students need.
By having this everyday access to these computers my students will become increasingly comfortable using this technology for end of the year state testing. My students will have access to multiple digital platforms/learning tools such as online research libraries and games with a focus on math, reading and writing.
