Clay is one of the most exciting mediums to put into the hands of students. I would like to offer a greater variety of tools to the students to enhance their pottery experiences. Impressing designs within the clay surface is an ancient technique that would surely amaze and excite all.
The students attend a public elementary school in the South West; bringing with them a diverse cultural and socioeconomic background.
They are eager to learn and I'm consistently looking for new and innovative ways to bring to them interesting and educationally sound art activities and experiences.
My Project
Of the various art forms practiced by people, pottery was of great importance for both function and aesthetics. The clay stamps would provide exciting cultural and historical designs to be impressed into the clay surface. The stamps would be easy to hold for the youngest students, yet provide detailed designs to satisfy even the oldest students.
Specialized tools for clay work can be expensive.
Given the current economic state of my school district, my art budget does not allow for such materials. The various stamps would be an exciting and interesting addition to the art room for years to come. The impressions would surely impress.
