Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a Specialized Support Behavior special education classroom. My students face challenges from the very moment they wake up in the morning. I work with special needs students whose disabilities range from emotional/behavioral disabilities, ADHD, ODD, learning disabilities and autism. Despite the challenges they face daily, these students are unique and wonderful in their own ways. My classroom goal is to create a positive learning environment where they feel safe and motivated to learn every day. My personal goal is to help my students mange their emotions in order for them to have a positive outlook in their education.
My Project
Social Emotional Learners must develop skills that will help manage their emotions and set goals for themselves. In an SSB (specialized support behavior) unit the students work on social skills that will help them manage their emotions and increase their ability to learn in the classroom.
When students are given the opportunity to release extra energy they have in a positive way is self rewarding.
The products I have selected are specific to the learners I have in the classroom. From fidgets to help prevent impulsive behaviors, books to explain appropriate behaviors, and equipment to help them release the extra energy they have built up, I have seen how the little things have a great impact on Social Emotional Learners. My students are currently developing the skills they need to acquire in order to be successful in the general education setting and this project will be a great starting point for them.
