My students need a netbook computer to do research, complete learning station activities, and to use in class presentations, as well as running our smart-board technology.
Have you ever wanted to do something but struggled to learn the task? That is how many of my young third graders feel about school. They are eager to learn but are beginning to find reading and math too difficult to stick with. I want to help them before it is too late.
We are a class of enthusiastic first and second graders and a fun-loving teacher that finds learning exciting!
They are like little sponges absorbing EVERYTHING I can teach them and finding new things to learn on their own and from each other. We work and learn together in a Title I school with a very high percentage of students and families living in low income homes. Our school has a large group of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) students. While poverty and language can present big barriers for students, we are learning not to let our challenges get in the way of learning or loving life. I strive each day to help my students find joy in their lives and in being together and learning. Our class is a wonderful place to be!
My Project
A vitally important thing is to teach our students to use 21st century skills and technology and that means computers. Some of them have gaming skills that adapt easily to the classroom. This means that they can build toward using computers to benefit themselves and others in the future. Many of my students cannot afford to have computers in their homes and are at a disadvantage to other students in the world. We need a netbook computer so that we can create projects, complete learning station activities such as Internet searches or educational games, as well as for showing documents or class work through the document camera or PowerPoints via the projector. This will allow students to use interactive programs and create products that meet our learning objectives but most importantly, develop skills for living and working in the real world of today.
You can know that these special kids have another chance to be successful and encouraged in school.
You can know that these kids will be touched by the fact that someone cared enough to provide this equipment. Thank you!
