More than 70% of the students I teach are from low-income households. Of this 70%, Hurricane Harvey affected 100% of them. If not physically affected, they were affected mentally. Despite experiencing hard times brought on by this natural disaster and essentially “starting over”, these students arrive to school each day excited to learn. For a brief moment, they push through the turmoil of the outside world and allow my classroom to become an escape. Despite losing everything, they come to class with enthusiasm and are determined to finish the school year strong. Some of these students even go beyond what is expected of them and participate in extracurricular activities.
I am hoping that this camera will provide the tool necessary to capture the memorable moments from throughout the year. I would like for my students to be able to visually see how much they have achieved over the year.
In every picture there is a story and I want my students to capture theirs with quality photos!
Because our school is shifting towards a technological-dependent curriculum, I am seeking more technological resources that will be beneficial to my scholars. These resources include professional cameras for our mini photographers to take quality photos and create iMovies that document their personal achievements throughout the year . Providing resources and supplies for my scholars would not only benefit them but also my classroom, while I work hard and continue to provide a welcoming environment for them as well and create a way for them to take a break from the reality that they are forced to live in.
