My Project

My students LOVE to create. This project will allow them to research their family history and connect with their family members. They then will have choice on what to showcase artistically by creating their own shirt to present to their classmates.

Task:

You will be creating a t-shirt mural that captures your research about your country/culture and your family’s

journey to America as well as expressing your unique identity.

Part I:

Research your country or culture of origin. Select one that best fits your identity. Use Internet and library

sources to find out about the country or culture you identify with. You will learn as much as you can about

your culture including important symbols, literature, music, art, food, historical events, etc.

a. Examples of country of origin: Pakistan, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, etc.

b. Examples of culture of origin: African-American culture, Jewish culture, Native-American culture, etc.

Part II:

Research how your family arrived in America. You will have to interview family members to learn who came

from where, when and under what circumstances. There is always a story so find out yours!
