Help me give my students Amazon Fire 7 tablets and protective cases so they can continue their learning during this global pandemic.

My students are English language learners in a Title I school in Baltimore City. Our nickname is "the school of many nations" because our student body represents a multitude of countries and cultures. Diversity is one of our greatest strengths. Despite these virtues, ours is still an urban school in a struggling district. Over 90% of students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. New and appropriate materials cannot always be provided for our school. My students are clever, caring, and funny individuals who deserve access to high-quality books, supplies, and resources.
Imagine you are in a new country where you don't speak the language. Maybe you experienced a harrowing journey to get here and maybe you're being reunited with parents you haven't seen in over half of your life. On top of everything, you are in middle school, which is traumatic enough. And right when you're starting to feel acclimated and comfortable, school shuts down and you don't have technology at home.
Our school is transitioning to remote instruction and many of my newcomer English learners do not have access to the online platforms necessary to support their learning.
Video read-alouds, online journaling, digital assignments and screencasts are a few of the ways I'm planning to use technology to extend my students learning beyond our classroom walls. However these engaging options to deliver content and preserve community aren't available to my students who don't have computers, laptops or tablets at home. Our local Internet company is offering free service to families, but this is little help if my students don't have devices. My students' families are already facing great stress. Their children missing out on remote learning shouldn't be added to their worries.
Your donation to this project will put Amazon Fire 7 tablets in the hands of five immigrant middle schoolers. This will enable them to continue practicing their English, gaining basic academic skills and sharing in learning experiences with their classmates. We are navigating uncharted waters and your support will make a world of difference to my students. Thank you for believing in public education!
