My Students

Who would have thought that teaching reading to young children could be so challenging? It is so important that students have access to many types of nonfiction. With technology so prominent in our lives, schools are challenged with finding text that is engaging and interesting.

My students are a group of eager, bright, children that love to learn!

Their love for learning motivates me to find new and exciting ways to teach them. Harrison is a Kindergarten through Fourth grade primary center. It a 98% free and reduced breakfast and lunch. The population is diverse consisting of mostly ELL and African American students. The students come from homes that are considered to be a poverty level of living.

My Project

As a growing reader, I can remember falling in love with a book, and not wanting to put it down. That's what I want for my students. I want them to love to read so much that they just can't get enough! I believe that dream can come true for me by having interesting engaging text in the classroom.

Nonfiction is a different type of reading from fiction reading.

Putting nonfiction text into the hands of students will prepare them to be lifelong readers. I believe that giving my students the opportunity to fall in love with reading will make them so successful in life.
