My students have a strong desire to learn, and really love to develop their own personal style of learning. The students in my class care about the learning of others and are consistently seeking opportunities to become self-reliant, independent learners.
My students are always looking for topics that are high-interest and appeal to them.
It is fun to find engaging, fun, interesting topics that they can really relate to and find meaning with and then be able to relate it back to language arts.
Just the other day we were working on argumentative writing using crimes and mysteries. I didn't tell them the purpose of why we were searching for evidence and creating claims to solve the case. They were genuinely excited and loved finding the evidence to solve the crime. It finally dawned on one student that I was teaching them how to prepare claims and evidence for argumentation. Once that student figured it out, they told the rest of the class and the whole class was quite pleased with themselves for being able to accomplish such "hard" work and still have fun. They called me a "sneaky" teacher because we were having fun and still learning.
My Project
My students need a space to go to be able to curl up and read a good book. I want to provide high-interest novels for them to encourage a love for reading. To be able to do this, I need them to be as comfortable in my classroom as possible to give support for better reading habits.
I want to provide students with the kinds of books that they want to read.
Students have asked many times if I could get more copies of their favorite books, or books they think they'll be interested in so they don't have to wait so long to read it, or try to find it somewhere else.
Every day in class my students complete various activities on individual cloud books, it would be great to expand those activities to include listening practices and these headphones will help me to do that.
