Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my classroom have access to one computer on a daily basis. We do not have access to the school computer lab before school or after school. Students visit the lab for four weeks, twice a year. The rest of the time we cannot print materials. We like to use the web to do research. Students are asked to visit the public library when ever possible to use the computers and get print outs of their findings. The majority of these students can not get to the library for different reasons.
I would like to have a printer/copier in the classroom for the students to use. If at all possible some ink replacement as well. The printer would allow students to print out copies of materials they need to complete research papers or special class projects. The copier would permit the students to make copies of materials they may have brought in from home to share with their classmates immediately. We would also be able to borrow a digital camera and print pictures of students working together as well as use the pictures in the classroom as displays of students finished projects.
I have a fourth grade bilingual classroom with 28 students. Our school is really big and very busy all the time. Our students are encouraged to do their best and build a school wide community. The resources in the building are limited but students and faculty share ideas and help each other.
All of the students in the classroom would benefit, if we had a printer in the classroom because they would be able to print out information they need immediately. While one student is printing the other students would have the printed information in front of them. They would not have to wait a day or two for me to download the information at home and bring in the copies.
This would be a great way to continue to encourage students to use the Internet and become computer users. They need to have more computer experiences and this would give each student more time to use the Internet during the school day because they could print out needed information and read it at their desk while someone else takes a turn on our computer.
