My students need fun makers space to keep creatively alive when they become an early finisher since artwork can not be timed and we all complete our master pieces differently.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Could you imagine school being the most secure and stable place in your life? The one place you know a hot meal will be waiting for you? How about asking your teacher if you could take a nap because it's the one place you feel safest.
Every child should know someone in life is on their side and believes in them.
My students come from a neighborhood most people try to avoid. Some students come to school hungry because their last meal was lunch at school the day before. Some of my students come to school without their homework done, not because the dog ate it, but because they currently don't have lights on until mom finds help paying the bill. My school is 100% free breakfast and lunches.
When my students enter the art studio, not only does their imagination grow, but so does their superhero skills. My students are all considered superheros because when the rest of the world has thought to give up, they will rise above and succeed. Art helps people see the world a little different. Color makes the world a little brighter when it should seem dullest. And happiness comes from inspiring others.
My Project
Creating artwork is a process, some kids have been introduced to imagination early and some never learn about the magical creations our minds can make. In art we all focus on artwork different, some students use every minute of every art class to finish a projects, and some students finish much earlier than others.
The idea of creating a small makers space inside my art room will allow students who finish their artwork early, to continue to imagine and design fun creations with blocks, lights, and magnets, along with reinforcing our colors and structure ideas.
With STEAM being a key to the center of education, being able to reinforce those essential subject matters with students while in the art room, help to create leaders, inventors and engineers!
