My students need the Makedo kits so they can build multiple projects with cardboard. We can recycle boxes and used cardboard in the classroom to create multiple items like bridges, buildings, cars, boats, and even rockets.

My Students
I teach in a very small district, that has a high poverty rate, so I have over 90% of my students receiving a free breakfast and lunch. My students are excited learners from a low income area. They love coming to the STEM lab to learn with hands-on materials. I work with every student in my building from Kindergarten all the way to 5th grade.
My students are sponges who love to explore any engineering challenge that I can put in front of them.
They seem to retain information so much more when they can see, touch, and think through the concepts that we work on in class.
Our school is a small city school, so students seldomly go in the woods or dig in the dirt to learn about the animals around them. As a result, they know very little about the life cycles of the critters around them.
My Project
The Makedo kits will allow my students to design and build different structures with materials that we can reuse over and over again. I use a hundred rolls of tape a year on projects that the students make in the STEM Lab. The purchase of the kits and tools will promote collaboration, ingenuity, and perseverance as students work together to create different objects in the STEM Lab challenges.
The Makedo kits teach students that they don't always have to have the newest or most expensive materials to create something great.
The materials are are a creative way for students to engineer structures and then build with recycled materials.
