My students need novels that have an array of interests to attain their reading. My students are reading well below grade level and need highly engaging texts to motivate them to read and continue to read.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach Special Education and Social Skills at a Title 1 school for students who have been identified as individuals who need additional social emotional support. Since I work at a Title 1 school the primary language of preference is Spanish and half of my special education students receive services from me in English as a Second Language. All of my students have been identified as individuals with an exceptionality, and are suffering from multiple stressful social situations that impede their everyday learning focus.
It is my job to provide them with skills that can generalize beyond the classroom setting and eventually into a professional setting.
With practice social situations during games, self-regulation tools, and community service opportunities they can be functional individuals.
My Project
All of my students read below grade-level and have a difficult time engaging with a text or being motivated to read. We need a new and differentiated classroom library to attain to the different reading needs of my students.
Cultural sensitivity and themes within the different realms of imagination are highly motivating to my students.
I am encouraging them to read in class and out of class by providing them with different types of texts.
Each student is placed in a hybrid reading group based on reading level, interest, and learning style. They read the assigned text in a small-group reading environment and demonstrate comprehension to the class with an end of text project.
