As a teacher in a low-income, Title I school, my students are faced with a lack of unique supplies in the classroom. I will be serving the students in a different setting by using a STEM Lab, and I would like to provide them ways to allow them to conduct and create projects with the many supplies they need. I am hoping to create a change in my students' learning this year by allowing them to become dreamers, creators, and producers. I want students from a small, rural community to become leaders of tomorrow and to use the thinking skills that students in today's high schools and colleges use so they can become successful in all of their endeavors.
My Project
Engineering has become a large part of student learning. Unfortunately, the classroom teacher is limited on time for this due to standards and testing. Next year, the students at my school will have the unique opportunity to be able to participate in STEM Lab on a weekly basis. To be able to make this STEM Lab reach its full potential, having the asked materials would help.
STEM/Engineering projects have students talk and work together to solve problems.
These problems are often real-world based, so it helps the students see how they can be effective in solving problems as they get older. Often times, using the events around us guides projects and discussions of how they were solved.
Watching the students grow as thinkers and problem solvers through-out the year is rewarding. It is amazing to see how the quiet students shine during some of these challenges. I believe opening up the lab to as many opportunities and materials possible will allow ALL students to become successful thinkers, dreamers, creators, and producers. Thank you in advance for your support.
