"Learning sometimes occurs because someone insists that you recognize the excellence in yourself." ~Rita Pierson
I have a class full of eager and energetic students.
They overcome adversity every day when they simply walk through my classroom doors. It is here when they can let down their guards and live up to their full potential. Although they live in an impoverished area, I teach my students they do not have to be a product of their environments. My students know each time they walk through my classroom doors they will feel love.
My classroom runs like a family. I expect everyone to treat each other with love and respect, to look out and help one another in need. My classroom is a place where barriers and walls can come down and my students can flourish because they know I only want them to be great. We learn lessons that go beyond standards, lessons that are useful for growth throughout life. I have never seen such a caring and loving bunch of kids. They are always eager to please their teacher.
Having an iMac in our classroom will broaden my students' learning in countless ways. I believe that project-based learning is the key to building a well-rounded foundation to the educational pathways in our young children's lives. Having technology at the base of science and math research projects will make their exploration journey that much more exciting. The iMac will allow my students to imagine, be creative, and research different tools, supplies and/or ideas for their projects. It will allow them to watch videos on how to make things, as well as listen to step by step directions. I will be able to create a video tailored specifically to their project and have the students watch the video to spark their ideas and get them motivated.
Having an iMac will give my students the platform to learn the foundation of coding at an early age, shaping their minds around engineering and mathematics.
My students have special needs and are English Language Learners. They have great difficulty with science and math. Having an iMac would spark interest and motivation. It will guide them through computation and experiments. It will be a visual support as it walks them through the scientific method as they morph into scientists. This will help my students believe in themselves and give them a reason to try without the fear of failure. Math and science will take on new meaning for my students with an iMac at their fingertips!
