Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

In my ninth through twelve grade, a diverse population of high school students are coming back to school under a variety of circumstances including a pandemic. They are going to need a lot of support.

It has been a pretty tough year for all of us all around, but these children, being from poor homes as defined by our Title I school district status (100% free lunch), have had a much more disappointing and difficult time.

Approximately 95% of our school population is African American. The students are mostly from single-parent households. My students (9th - 12th grade) are bright, energetic, talented, and resourceful.

After a pretty disappointing last school year, it is my desire to make our class as safe and clean as possible as we start to return to face-to-face instruction during this pandemic.

My Project

The classroom should be a safe haven. I would like to assist in making the classroom environment not only safe, but a place where student look forward to going every day. I presently have a work space for students, however I would like include a new chair desk and rug to make it special.

It is difficult enough to adapt to our new normal environments, (during a pandemic), but we can do our best to make our students love coming to school and feel they have their own private, safe, and inviting space to work.

I hope this will be a start to creating an environment where students do not feel isolated or lonely, but loved and cared about. A little tender love and care and throughout the spaces they will be using for instruction will make a world of difference. My students deserve some nice chairs and headphones to feel important and they are to me. Thank you in advance for your support.
