This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I have been teaching for thirty-two years. I have taught all day kindergarten, first grade and second grade since 1985. I teach in Atlanta, GA. in an area known as Mechanicville. The students in the area come from a low-income area. Ninety percent of the families are on food stamps and live in low-income housing. My elementary school has approximately three hundred and seventy-five students in grades K-5 with three classes for each grade level. The teachers provide various resources for some of the students. With trying to provide for our families, it is extremely hard to come up with funds to help all of the students who need it.
My Project
Many of my students miss breakfast in the morning. This can become a huge problem. When children are hungry, they are not able to concentrate. By providing these students breakfast, it will re-energize them. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Many of the students are home alone for hours before their parents arrive home.
I want to make sure that each student goes home with a snack every day. This may be the only food they will get for hours. No more hungry and grumbling stomachs for my students. Please help me make a difference. Let's fight hunger.
