My students need all kinds of materials to feed sensory needs. Weighted items, like the Kordy Moose, Cloe, Dot and the Kordy Elephant are attractive and help the students regulate their bodies to sit still.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Special Education is often considered the expensive stepchild. But my students are excited to have help to do better in school. They are students in a Title I school with an unusually high number of students in the foster care system. Speech and Language is a rich part of accessing curriculum that is more and more challenging for them. It's one thing to be learning a different language, it is entirely another thing to have special needs challenges while learning English.
In our program/classroom, we slow things down.
When we take the time to meet them at their skill level, they are consistently savvy enough to appreciate having that support so THEY can do their BEST! Then love for learning explodes! These students come ready! They try; they change; they grow; and then, they impact our school and community.
My Project
My students have special needs, and are often dealing with sensory overload. The Kordy elephant, Kordy moose, along with Cloe and Dot are weighted animals that will help students manage their bodies allowing for better focus.
Students with speech needs may also need Oral stimulation/sensory feeding, the Train and Star (flavored) pencil toppers are an inconspicuous way to address that need in the classroom.
The Bouncy Bands for Desks and Think-and-Roll footrests allow for resistance when students need to swing or move larger parts of their bodies. The chair bands also prevent accidental kicking and chair movement.
Feeding these sensory needs facilitates focus for better learning!
