Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'z gon at the stow. Sounds pretty sad! This is honestly how most of my children speak. Word recognition does not come easy to them because not only have they never seen most of these words, sometimes they have never heard them used correctly before walking into the classroom.
My children live in apartments most of us would not visit with a police escort.
They get their first meals at school, and often the only hug of the day. They have one uniform for 5 days and take pencils and crayons home just so they can finish their homework. There is where the difference lies. They take things home because they want to do their homework. They want to. My students come early and stay late so I can tutor them because for the first time they feel encouraged. They learn English, how to hold scissors, pencils, crayons and they learn paper can be used for more than paper planes. We are at the time of year where I take some children to the next level. I want to fill the room with activities to reinforce basic words, turn them into sentences and into stories. Slow at first, but stories that let them express inner emotions, or allow them to dream. We are also trying to be Green so we want to learn and write about how insects assist us in maintaining greener world
My Project
My children can use the butterfly and ladybug centers to learn and appreciate the life cycle of these insects and how important their existence is in creating a greener environment. We are building a butterfly garden and we would like to watch these insects develop and release them into our garden. We can improve our reading and writing using the writing pockets, read and write word game, roll and write word game, magnetic sight-word sentence board, sight word steps, instant word wall cards, and letter of the day pocket chart. Finally we can't forget those numbers and colors. Having colorful visuals always catch little eyes and after all eyes may be windows to the soul, but more importantly they are the portals to the brain. These items are selected to open the brain and help make a greener environment.
My project is important because due to cutbacks we are not able to study the life cycle of insects this year and without items designed to increase vocabulary my children will continue to be a product of their environment not a leader in their community.
