My Students

In my role as a middle school Literacy Specialist, I spend the large majority of my time with vibrant and curious youth, and the large majority are students of color who remain marginalized and continue to face adversity both in and out of school. Though not a monolithic group, many of the students who qualify for my support services are suffering the effects of poverty.

In our city, African American communities are suffering from the toughest of challenges, from gun violence to racism.

The perseverance my students show daily is evidence that the goals they set for themselves are important and they WILL achieve their truest potential. My students and their beloved families show integrity, respect, responsibility, and perseverance, facing some of life's toughest of challenges---Each deserving of excellence and equity in education.

My Project

This national conference, spearheaded by educational rock star couple Hope and Wade King, is THE ultimate professional learning experience.

It is important that teachers continue to develop their craft so that we can meet the ever growing demands of engagement in the classroom.

Four days of full workshops are designed to change the way teachers feel about education in order to do the same for their students! It is no secret that education has CHANGED. Our students are less engaged and interested than ever. The "Get Your Teach On" presenters focus on the WHOLE CHILD.

It is my hope that this conference will transform my teaching for the better. I will get the opportunity to collaborate with experienced and skilled professionals from around the world by attending grade level workshops. I will be able to come home and implement new and ready to use strategies and lessons into my everyday schedule.
