Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students from Houston are an amazing bunch. The classroom's environment is very important for my scholars. It is essential to create a space for my students to feel invited, safe, and comfortable enough to learn. A messy and uninviting classroom disengages a student. It also sends a message to them that they are not important.
In the words of Megan Dredge, "Your classroom environment speaks to your students before you utter a single word." The classroom is their home away from home and sometimes it's their only home.
The decor of the classroom is key. The decor should be intentional and educational. It compliments the learning. My scholars deserve the best because they give their best. They are truly amazing bilingual learners that deserve the same opportunity as other scholar to have a beautiful learning space. Let's make it exciting and engaging for them.
My Project
The 120 Grid carpet provides a place for the scholars to sit orderly during whole group instructions for our mini lesson, read aloud, and shared reading. It helps for classroom management to minimize distractions and promote, challenge, and inspire the scholars on a daily basis. It helps with place value and develop number sense.
Learning has to be fun!
Scholars get the opportunity to have a kinesthetic experience with the 120 grid carpet daily. Having this carpet would help set the classroom culture. It promotes students to participate in-high level learning aligned to the objectives presented during math class. It is great to help the transfer Spanish vocabulary into English.
