I am a third-grade teacher in a pre-kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. We are a Title 1 school, and the majority of our students come from low-income families. Next year, I will be teaching approximately thirty third-grade students ranging in age from eight to ten, nine of whom will be repeating the third grade for the first or second time. My students LOVE pictures! Whenever I would bring out my DonorsChoose cameras to take pictures to send to previous donors, they would stop everything to get in the shot. In fact, it became so coveted that I was able to use picture-taking as a behavior incentive that actually worked! Additionally, my students felt much more ownership over their work when they were able to take a picture with it, and have that picture displayed in the classroom or on a bulletin board. My room was teeming with pictures last year, and the students loved it! However, it became very difficult to use disposable cameras, because I never knew which shots were worth keeping and whether or not I needed to take another picture of a child and his/her creation. I have purchased a digital camera, but I would like to purchase a printing station so that we can share these pictures by displaying them in our classroom. Thank you for helping our photo-room to continue to thrive, and thank you for your investment into the lives of my students.
