Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are eager to learn even though they are currently remote, working in noisy households, and sometimes moving daily from house-to-house depending on their parents' work schedules. Many come from low-income backgrounds, and all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
By exposing my students to engaging learning experiences, I hope to help the students learn about this great nation we live in, and see how they are a part of the fabric of this country.
We were the only 3rd grade class in the building at the start of school, and it was with a heavy heart that I had to pack them up to learn remotely. Please help me provide the supplies they need to help learn about our country.
My Project
Can you imagine being in third grade and not knowing what state you were born in or where you currently live? That is the world many off my inner city students come from. Yet, they are so curious about the United States and love to look at maps and watch videos that highlight each state.
However, it is difficult to pour over a map of the United States when you don't have one!
I would love to provide my students each with a blank U.S. map to fill out as we learn about them, a set of state flashcards, and a fabric map that they can scrunch up and put in a handy bag without having to worry about it ripping or getting lost. I would also like to give them a subscription to Scholastic News which covers current topics in social studies and science.
My goal is spur their love of this country and the desire to travel it and learn about all the wonderful places there are to see and explore.
