Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I noticed that many of my fifth grade students regularly hummed the Jeopardy theme song while waiting for others to reply to discussion questions. I wondered how I could bring the enthusiasm of the game show Jeopardy into our classroom. One day while perusing a teacher catalog, I stumbled upon the answer. Someone had created a school-friendly Jeopardy game that allows teachers to design questions that specifically relate to the curriculum of that classroom. Wow! Finally a positive way to mix education and pop culture. I immediately got really excited, until I saw the price tag. Due to normal budget constraints, my school is unable to purchase this resource. William F. Finkl Academy is a Chicago Public Elementary School that serves Latino and African American students. Approximately 98% of our students receive free lunch. We need three things to get started. First, we need the Jeopardy Classroom game. A great addition to that would be the fifth grade questions cartridge. Last, it would be awesome to be able to create our own questions based on our curriculum. I know that my 30 fifth graders will have a blast when we start learning, testing and reviewing with the Jeopardy Classroom Game.
