My students need enrichment activities, like art ideas and vocabulary practice cards, plus games, like Scrabble and Jenga to continue to promote their learning above and beyond the daily lesson.
"Teacher, I'm done?" Now what? Keep those higher achieving students interested and moving along when the teacher needs to provide interventions to others. Students motivate their learning through the use of games and additional hands on activities. Learning without knowing they are learning!
Our school is a full Title I school in Arizona.
Many funds are set aside to assist the struggling learner. However, it is those students who are high achievers or above grade level that suffer. No monies are spared in the school budget to support this end of learner. These students want to show their knowledge beyond the basic lesson without having to 'tutor' other students in their grade level. Games and hands-on activities keeps their passion for learning burning bright.
My Project
Through the use of games and hands-on activities, students learn without knowing they are "learning" from their use of deductive reasoning, strategy implementation, predicting outcomes, kinesthetic mobility, and creative solutions. Students learn to work with others in a group of common thinkers towards a common goals. The use of games and other hands-on activities keep these students motivated and excited to continue to learn.
Motivation.
That's what keeps teachers and students going on a regular basis. A lot of the "fun" has been removed from classrooms due to high stakes testing. Allowing students to have fun from playing games keeps them motivated AND they don't always realize they are still learning.
