Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are happy to be at school no matter what our building looks like or what resources we are missing. They love me, I love them, and we both love learning!
We are students in a very high poverty, 100% free and reduced lunch community.
We are 82% Hispanic. We are proud of who we are and unaware of how underprivileged we are. Most of us are bilingual with English as our second language. 3 students in our class are new to the county this year and are just beginning to learn English. We are a strong second grade class that loves reading, writing, and math. We have 3 math classes a day some weeks to help us prepare for MCAS next year.
My Project
Students work hard to finish their partner work and independent work each day. They are very motivated learners to begin with and always put their best effort into their work. Instead of extra credit worksheets or my homemade games, students will be able to play exciting, interactive math games! These games will not only help them practice math skills. They will constantly have to learn and practice social skills while they read directions and play these games.
Giving early finishers a fun common core aligned game or activity will keep the excitement and entertainment in math while with are busy attending to strict common core requirements and loads of test prep.
These games will help students practice place value, money, time, addition, subtraction, comparisons, and word problems.
