I am a first grade teacher, in a Title I school, meaning more than 80% of our population receives free/reduce lunch. I am writing a proposal for listening/reading equipment and materials for classroom centers and small group instruction. These materials include a CD/cassette/AM-FM stereo boom box listening system, classic cassette read-alongs, complete sight word readers, emergent readers book set, and non-fiction readers (holidays, seasons, and weather). The school I teach in is a Literacy First school. Literacy First is a research-based, systematic, systemic and comprehensive reform program that accelerates reading achievement of ALL students in grades Pre-K to 12. The goal of literacy first is to accelerate reading achievement so at least 85-90% of all students are performing on or above grade level. Having these items in my classroom will allow my students easy access to various types of reading materials which are very important in developing vocabulary, fluency, and listening skills, oral and written language concepts, social skills (buddy reading) and comprehension. All of these skills are very important to the literacy first program as well as to the success of our young people. Please help me to help them become GOOD READERS! Thank you so much!
