Ms. Guggenheim from New York NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students books on their level to enable them to become readers. I have purchased a membership to Reading A-Z so I can print books for them. But we need more.

My students are inquisitive and have embraced and internalized our mantra, “We are growing our intelligence every day”. The more we do something, the better we get at it. Last week as I sat down feeling dejected and like a total failure, Reinaldo walks up to me. Looks at me for a couple of seconds and says, “You know something? I love you!” I started crying. I gave him a hug and told him I love you too. He probably thought me crazy. But that 5-year-old telling me that at that moment was a balm on my soul. They often comfort each other as well. It re-charged my mindset of perseverance. They are my why. Children, despite their zip codes, deserve a quality education that will afford them opportunities to be contributing members to our democracy!
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and we are thankful for the opportunities to read. My students need books that match their reading level. We have a very limited number of books for them to choose from. With more books in our classroom library, my kindergarteners will continue to learn “Reading is Thinking.” And the students will also learn readers choose books for different purposes and/or reasons on different topics, in different genres. My students will have access to more books and have more than 1 or 2 books in their Book Baggies. They will also be able to choose books that interest them. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences with the printed word.
