My Students
I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to teach these 5th grade students. They are eager to learn new material everyday. These magnificent students live in an area where there is high poverty. Our school site has 100% free breakfast and lunch. It also includes many students who are considered homeless.
They are constantly surprising me by applying what was taught
everyday. However, in order for my students to compete with the country, they need to have access to all necessary supplies.
My Project
My fifth graders have been introduced to AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), which is a program meant to close the achievement gap worldwide to better prepare our students for college. One of the crucial parts of this program is to teach my students to be better organized with their assignments and notes taken. Binders are a tremendous necessity for my students to keep their papers in tact.
Receiving heavy-duty 3" ring binders will be a huge part of their success as they will be able to keep their notes to study for quizzes and exams in all subject areas.
This will be a tremendous advantage for my fifth graders as they move on to middle school where AVID will be component of their school lives.
