Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
In Kindergarten, my students learn better when they can manipulate their environment. My goal is to have them master their letter names and sounds; to become fluent readers; the challenge is that most of them don't have access to tech. "Tech gives the quietest student a voice." -Jerry Blumengarten
Most of my students are EL learners and come from low socioeconomic backgrounds.
They don't have the support at home to help succeed in school. My school is mostly EL learners and disadvantaged populations. Most of our parents work in the farming community resulting in less interactive time with their students and fewer resources to provide materials for their children. Most of our parents have limited English and education, which makes it difficult for them to help their children with their school work.
My Project
I am requesting 2 iPads to help my students learn their phonics, build their vocabulary, and promote fluency during our center time.
I am planning on utilizing these 2 iPads during center time to give a visual supplement to my lessons. They love to touch their environment and having this in my centers would help facilitate that need and learning style. Instead of having them look at pieces of paper, this is another way to reinforce or enhance their learning. I would love for them to use the different apps that would help give my students immediate feedback and validation for a job well done.
Having the iPads in my classroom would help my EL students participate in the lesson without fear or ridicule due to the fact that they have limited English.
Visual apps would help my non English students learn language basics and help improve their vocabulary.
