This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“There can be infinite uses of the computer and of new age technology, but if teachers themselves are not able to bring it into the classroom and make it work, then it fails.” – Nancy Kassebaum
Our classroom is made up of students with little to no resources of any kind and students with access to technology.
However, a majority of my students do not have access to technology at home. Many of my students come from homes where education is not valued, or homes where parents care very much about their child's education but can't or don't know how to help their children.
My Project
It seems that technology becomes an increasingly larger part of our lives every day. Having access to this piece of technology will greatly enhance the learning experiences of all of my students. As I sat in professional development sessions this summer, so many great ideas were given. Most of those great ideas were based on technology: apps, QR readers, etc. I saw how those ideas could add so much to our lessons, independent work, and more, but I cannot implement these ideas without the technology pieces.
Having this iPad will allow me to incorporate new ideas into our classroom, and therefore increase students excitement and engagement in what we are doing.
This higher level of engagement will lead to more successes for these great kids! Especially for my students who have no access to technology at home, having the opportunity to work with this technology at school is priceless!
