Our school is in an urban area in Virginia. We take pride in being the most diverse elementary school in our district and represent about 30 different languages that are spoken by our students.
Our students and teachers love books and make reading a special part of each day.
Along with motivating our students to read books they enjoy, our teachers are always working to increase our students' academic achievement and social-emotional skills. We are proud of our school community!
My Project
Third grade students love to draw and illustrate the stories they write. Many are even using their love of art to help design their own graphic novels. They spend a great deal of time trying to improve their sketches to portray what is happening in their stories and would love to learn how to draw specific things. In many of the books we read together as a class, we highlight the work of illustrators and the way they share in the importance of the story-telling. Now my students are eager to persevere with their sketching and really become accomplished illustrators!
