Hands on learning is a crucial part of any science classroom in the forms of model making and experiments. With budgets cuts looming, it is difficult to obtain the supplies needed by the students to create 3-D, hands on models to enhance their conceptual understanding.
My students attend a small high school in a historic sea port in South Carolina.
I primarily teach sophomores in which all of them are on track to attend an institution of higher education after high school. Being that the students are all on track, I feel that it is my responsibility to provide them with the best possible high school experience and prepare them by having a strong foundation in science. I achieve this by incorporating technology and making the concepts in Biology a fun, interactive learning experience by creating models and large concept diagramming.
My Project
My students will use the variety of colored paper requested to create models and visual representations of the concepts covered in College Prep and Advanced Placement Biology. The different projects and models created will help them visualize the often difficult processes to understand in the world of Biology.
Your support of this proposal for colored paper will allow the students to create models to understand the fascinating world of Biology.
With a better understanding of Biology at the high school level, it will make the transition into college level Biology/ Life Science classes less frightening.
