Ms. A. from VA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need one digital LCD/multimedia projector and one LCD projector presentation cart in order to incorporate technology into the curriculum.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I teach resource Earth Science and Developmental Reading to a wonderful group of high school students with special needs in an urban area. These students have a variety of exceptional needs ranging from learning disabilities to other health impairments, such as attention-deficit disorder. Many of these students require multi-sensory teaching approaches and having an LCD projector will allow students to learn through a variety of methods.
With the economic crisis our school is facing, there are only two LCD projectors that are available to over a dozen special education teachers, scattered over a very large campus. I am a teacher who likes to tap into various learning modalities and excite the class by using technology on a regular basis through United Streaming, Power Point presentations, and all of the other wonderful applications made possible through the use of an LCD projector. Unfortunately, with the scarce availability of the technology this is sometimes difficult. It's times like those when he have to carry out more "book work." When we use the LCD projector I can see that the students are enjoying the class more and gaining more knowledge about the subject matter. I am also requesting a cart for the projector because currently I have to sit the borrowed machine on top of a student desk, which could result in the machine falling to the floor if I'm not very careful with it.
Having an LCD projector will benefit my students in many ways. The majority of them do not have computer and Internet access at home. This resource will allow them to keep up with current technology and become proficient in creating and displaying their own Power Point presentations. We will be able to view websites, such as United Streaming, which offer educational videos and activities in both reading and science. We will also use the LCD projector to play educational games, such as Jeopardy, which I have found to be very helpful in not only enhancing content but also giving students an alternative to worksheets.
Your help will ensure that my students are provided with an exciting, hands-on, multi-sensory approach to learning about Earth Science and Reading. I also feel that this proposal will help students who plan on going to college, as having knowledge of how to manipulate basic technology is something students are expected to have by the time they graduate from high school.
