Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title-1 school with 70% ESL students. I have a 3rd-4th-grade combination class with several special needs students, including three in the resource program. These students have significantly low background knowledge and dynamic visual learning approaches are imperative.
My students do not have access to microscopes. They have shown a great interest in science, and they love to take part in the hands on experiments. They have very little background knowledge and showing them dynamic pictures of what the lesson is covering significantly enhances comprehension of the key concepts.
When teaching science, I will be able to show slides of microscopic elements to the class through the T 1902F KEN-A-VISION microscope and the microscope adapter. We do not have microscopes for the students. I will, therefore, be able to share with them the experiments requiring examination of microscopic substances, which I am only able to describe to them, or gather approximate versions in still shots from the Internet at present. I do have the projector connected to my laptop and I have seen real results from showing information in this way. Materials have to be scanned to be projected and therefore are one-dimensional. A document camera(which is not requested) and a new microscope will allow me to project directly from any material I have at hand and the students will see them in a three dimensional presentation. I can demonstrate a task or experiment and project it for the entire class to see at one time.
With your help, my students will be able to engage more quickly and effectively because they will finally be able to directly visualize any material that I am verbally explaining to them. This pivotal tool will successfully break through a barrier that is hindering many of my visual-learning students from fully exploring these crucial concepts. With this document camera, I will be able to open up an entirely new world of learning, from experiments that require examining the microscopic substances to three dimensionally presenting tasks for the entire class to see at one time. We may spark an interest that starts a path to a future scientist.
