Bozhoo! That is how you say hello in Ojibwe. I teach first-grade students in a school that is located on a Native American reservation. Most of my students come from generational poverty, which can bring trauma. Every year, I do my best to create a classroom family where each child feels safe, successful, and loved.

My students start each day eager to learn, create, and explore. My job, as their teacher, is to help each child reach their full potential. They excel with hands-on activities that engage them. That is why I do my best to find engaging lessons that will help them grow personally and academically, so that they can develop a better understanding of the world around them.
My Project
My students and I are requesting two iPods to create a classroom listening center, cases and screen protectors to protect the iPods, and pop sockets to help make it easier for the children to hold the iPods.
Research shows that students who hear stories become better readers themselves.
By donating to this project, you are changing my students lives for the better. The children at our school don't often get to hear how fluent readers read at home and therefore, struggle with becoming fluent readers themselves. By listening to a story on an iPod, while following along in their book, my students will be able to expand their vocabulary, improve their fluency, and strengthen their comprehension.
With your help, my classes love for reading will grow and they will be given the gift of becoming accurate and fluent readers.
